About AccessHope
AccessHope is a cancer support organization that facilitates second opinions on patient treatment plans from oncologists at top cancer institutes. Cancer patients who use AccessHope can request a review of their currently prescribed medical treatment.

The Opportunity
AccessHope initially communicated with the patient's oncologist via fax, which often led to experts second opinions not being viewed and valuable knowledge and patient treatment improvements being lost. As a way to increase engagement and therefore improve the lives of patients who request a second opinion, we created a digital portal for communications to be sent to oncologists and also provide a method to interact with these doctors in case they had any questions.
The Product
The Oncologist portal for AccessHope begins with an introduction of what the company is and how they can benefit both oncologists and their patients to improve treatment outcomes.
Setting up a verified account with AccessHope is an easy but thorough process. We used multi-factor authentication methods as well as physician information such as National Provider Identification numbers to set up secure accounts where privileged patient data can be stored and viewed.
Once oncologists have set up verified accounts on the portal, they can view their patient's treatment report review conducted by a specialist from a leading national cancer institute. We also designed a feedback portion for the oncologist to respond to after viewing the report to help measure how effective and useful these reports were to the receiving oncologist.

The portal also includes a feature through which the oncologist who received the second opinion can set up an appointment with an AccessHope medical director to ask questions and discuss the results of the report.

In the occasion that the receiving oncologist wishes to briefly communicate with an AccessHope medical director and does not want to make an appointment for a video or phone call, we also included a messaging feature that allows the oncologist to directly message about a patient in their care.

AccessHope also needs access to the patient's medical records in order to provide all the details to their top oncologists partners to make an informed judgement or second opinion on the patient's treatment plan. In order to speed up the process and encourage completion of the medical records procurement process, we also designed a companion portal for medical record uploads.
